This giclée reproduction of James Betrand’s engraving of Marguerite
tells a sad tale of a girl who, in turning to the Blessed Mother for
assistance, fails to cooperate with the graces given to her.
Marguerite, after promising Faust that she will receive him that night
into her bedchamber, hears the story of girl who had been seduced and
left alone with a child. Marguerite, realizing her own sin, turns to
the Queen of Virgins with a plea for help. Abandoning the grace and the
warning, Marguerite falls into sin. In the end, however, she is saved
by her suffering and the mercy of God.
