This moving painting displays the Blessed Mother Mary
returning from the Crucifixion. Mary Magdalene and St.
John are accompanying the sorrowful Mother. St. John's
gaze takes the viewer's eye to the rear of the painting
where, barely visible in the far-right corner, the three
crosses on Mt. Calvary still stand.
