Many consider the monastic or contemplative life as dark and morbid. Walter Dendy Sadler, a British Academic artist, however, saw the humor as well as the human side of the monastic vocation. In Tomorrow will be Friday or Thursday, Sadler portrays a group of jovial monks enjoying the day fishing. This work is only one of several humorous illustrations of the religious life that Sadler does. Most of these works deal with fishing, such as Friday, the pendant of this work, and Habet.
